Episode 101: Woman in the Woods

Editor: Bre Boswell
Released: 8 March 2020

A fertility goddess hasn’t been born in years.

Ares

Persephone uses her powers to free Ares from the tree. He falls on his butt in the process and lets his emotions get the better of him, calling her a “Stupid fucking village girl!” This obviously upsets Persephone and it is unclear if this is why she is insecure about her simple origin or if she’s heard this before. Ares is not happy that he made her cry and run away from him, but as he calls out to her, he realizes she’s completely healed him and realizes she could be a fertility goddess. A fertility goddess hasn’t been born in years, and they are quite rare.

Ares has his own style of chaotic, winsome charm and he finds Persephone the next day to get to know her better. He tells her a sad story about how he’s often alone and misunderstood and doesn’t know how to read. Pure, sweet Kore shares her lunch with him and offers to teach him how to read. He seems mischievous but not malicious with this trick and while it's uncool that he’s wasting her time, Persephone is free to deny his request. Over the course of the week, they form a bond with Ares checking her out often. He eventually asks her if she wants to make out and while he’s not her ideal choice, she sees no harm in it. Even though he’s reckless, he does wait for consent and they kiss. While they are kissing, she sees his journal that he’s been writing in since before he’s ever met her and realizes that she has been deceived.
Persephone is livid as she’s wasted her precious alone time on this liar, however, she doesn’t seem mad about the kiss. She calls for her mother and we are given one of the best panels in the comic: the maternal panic of Demeter.
