Hades tells Thanatos what happened to Minthe. At first, Thanatos panics, thinking that Hades must know that he is one of the ones who went to Zeus. Thanatos stares at a now Minthe-turned-mint-plant.

Hades frames Minthe’s “mint-ing” as a result of Persephone’s growing powers.

While he was talking to Thanatos, he sees a ray of sunlight coming in from the pool house.

Persephone recognizes Leto as someone who doesn’t come from her mother’s farm. Leto pleads for Persephone to hear her out, and tells her that she and Apollo, as the Goddess of Spring and the God of the Sun, would make a perfect match. She introduces herself as Apollo’s mother.

Persephone isn’t having it. Leto tells her that she’s come to speak on Apollo’s behalf and that Apollo is heartbroken. She asks Persephone to give Apollo another chance.

“What I do know is that I will never marry Apollo.”

Persephone tells Leto what Apollo said to her: “I don’t need you to like me to be my wife.” A visible sweat drops from Leto’s forehead.

Leto says that Hades has seduced Persephone with his wealth and that a relationship between her and Hades would not work, as there wouldn’t be sunlight for her in the Underworld. Persephone says that her respect for Artemis is the only reason she’s not calling for Hades. She further tells Leto that Apollo has no love for her and that she could not care for him any less. She makes it firm that she will never marry Apollo.

Leto says that choosing Hades will destroy her relationship with her mother, Persephone stops her from talking more about Demeter.

Finally, Leto adds that it’s big of Persephone to look past Hades’ baggage. Persephone replies that everyone has baggage. But then Leto reveals about Hades and Hera’s past, something that Persephone didn’t know.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

• Leto gaslights Persephone all throughout their conversation.

• We get an insight on Hades and Hera’s past relationship, which was initially revealed to have ended in the 80s.

• Hera and Leto’s fallout may have something to do with Leto’s knowledge of Hades and Hera’s affair.

• When Persephone holds the pool net, it resembles Hades’ bident.
