Episode 27: Deal

Editor: Bekah Caden
Released: 26 August 2018

In the silence of their phone call, Hades begins to apologize, but Persephone interrupts him. She says that while he is important, she doesn’t have anything to contribute because Demeter managed spring before she was born, and is managing now while she’s in Olympus. She’s upset, because if she wasn’t around, everything would still be fine. Miserable, she snacks on a leftover piece of cake from the fridge.

Hades tells her that “fine is a dirty, four-letter word that starts with F,” and that Demeter’s version of spring is organized, neat, and tidy. However he calls Persephone’s spring “savage and unpredictable.” He says that Persephone is one of the reasons mortals see them as gods and not complete monsters.

“Saying that what you do isn’t important, is like saying we shouldn’t bother learning how to read or write because it doesn’t keep us alive. You’re one of the reasons why the mortals see us as gods and not complete monsters.”

Hades remembers gifting Hera a small dog figurine when they were younger. Zeus sees them from a distance and appears angry. Hades explains his choice was either the Underworld or the Ocean, and he hates sand. Persephone senses there’s more to the story but doesn’t press the question further.

Blue flowers bloom in Persephone’s hair. Meanwhile, Hermes wakes up on the couch behind Persephone and goes to leave, but she doesn’t notice. She asks Hades if he got to choose his job.

She wants to ask him another question and offers an “I-owe-you-one” personal question he can ask her at any time in the future. He agrees. Persephone asks Hades why he is not married.
