Episode 163: Kings
Editor: Bre Boswell
Released: 26 June 2021
Zeus tries to assure Hades that he’d be great at it as Hades tells his brother he doesn’t want to be alone. Zeus promises that they’ll visit all the time.
Additionally, Zeus tells Hades that he gets to bring Kronos with him as a “prize.” Since Kronos tormented Hades the longest, Zeus figured he could be in charge of imprisoning him.
Demeter comes in and asks to speak with Zeus. Their conversation is unknown as Hades watches from a distance.
Zeus approaches Hades one day and asks how he feels about being a King. He proposes that he, Poseidon, and Hades should all be Kings: Zeus would be King of the Gods and the Heavens, Poseidon would be King of the Sea, and Hades would be the King of the Underworld.
Hades hesitates as the Underworld seems kind of far away from everyone. He asks if he can just stay in the Mortal Realm. He says he doesn’t mind not being a King.
Hades asked Hera if she could come with him, but Hera was going to be Queen of the Gods alongside Zeus.
Hades continues to say that they all moved on to the next phases of their lives and it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Being the King of the Underworld had drawbacks and being married to Zeus had it’s own disappointments. Zeus managed to be insufferable to both of them and they turned to each other for revenge on Hera’s part. Hades wanted the intimacy, but he understands that their actions were petty rebellion and not a real relationship.
Persephone thanks him for being so forthright and admits that his past makes her feel inadequate and jealous. She worries about how she might compare to Hera. Unfortunately, that isn’t all she should know about Hades and he has more to say.
The Dread Queen has arrived, and Kronos is not prepared.
