Episode 199: Vulnerable Pieces

Editor: Bre Boswell
Released: 18 June 2022

Athena storms into Zeus’s office with her owl. She is upset he failed Persephone again and reveals Poseidon has been asleep for three years, Hera for eight years, and Hestia for almost 10. In doing so, she slams game pieces on a table, similar to chess or a kind of strategy/war table she has setup. One representing each of them.

She becomes angry and teary-eyed, saying she misses Hestia. Tired of spending all her time stationed underground with Hades, she insists it’s time for Zeus to act.

“It’s clear there’s something very disturbing at work here, and we need to get ahead of it.”

Athena

She concludes that the sleeping sickness has to do with the scars and thus, Kronos. The only way to find out more is for Zeus to speak with Hades in person, to determine if 1) Hades is awake and 2) Tartarus is secure, as Hades imprisoned Kronos there. The only way to do that is for Zeus to return Persephone to the Underworld, as the demands made by Hades dictated. She points out that Persephone’s punishment doesn’t make sense anymore, it is impacting a lot of people, and giving room for Apollo to gain power and influence.

In the Underworld, the new, creepy Hermes continues to insist Persephone come with him. When he grabs her, she throws a typewriter at him and runs away. The voice of Eris appears in her mind, encouraging her not to run but to stand her ground. Growing giant vines, she grabs Hermes and knocks him around some more.

“What’s the matter? Did you think this was going to be easy?”

Persephone

As she tries to have a conversation with him, Hermes fights back, pulling her to him by the vines. Just as he’s about to pounce, Zeus flies down in a streak of lightning.
