Astrology Analysis: Hades

Sun: Scorpio

Moon: Taurus

Rising: Capricorn

Pluto rules Scorpio—and after all, Pluto is Hades’ Roman name. However, this isn’t just a lazy analysis based on that “what god rules which sign”. Hades oozes Scorpio energy.

Scorpions live to be in charge. They also extremely emotional creatures, but usually never show it on the surface.

They are the deepest secret keepers of the zodiac, but are steel traps. They aren’t looking for gossip or drama… they are just gathering information for their own use. Many times, they may come across as calm or mysterious on the surface.

They are the most sensual sign of the zodiac— even the actual glyph for Scorpio has a tail, which is supposed to suggest a phallic/sexual nature. If you’re wondering why Hades seems like a sexy, brooding mystery… well, you have your answer.

Those who fall into this zodiac sign have minds of their own, and are focused on power. Not fame, praise, prestige, or recognition… but true authority. They are patient, cunning, and determined. All too often, however, a Scorpio lives a life with trauma, and that forms the framework for their reality. Their lives are fraught with hardship, and they use that experience to try and transform their lives.

I believe Hades’ has a moon in Taurus. Scorpio and Taurus are both fixed signs, and I strongly feel like that’s reflective of Hades' nature. In Lore Olympus, he’s been a fixed personality for 2000+ years. The moon reflects your “emotions”, and this really nails it.

Taurus is a sign that lives in their senses. Touch, smell, taste, sound, sight… they relish in it all, and find joy.

Hades is blatantly obvious, to me, in this respect. He’s an amazing cook, and enjoys the process (and end result). When he sees Persephone, her beauty completely overloads his brain. Even when he drinks, he seems to relish how the alcohol appeals to his senses.

Hades is also a workaholic—one of the true Taurian traits. They are dependable, and struggle with sudden change or unexpected surprises. They are the definition of dependability, and are usually the types who try to gain wealth—not to be “rich”, but stemming from the desire to be “comfortable/well taken care of".

When I first tried to pinpoint the god of the underworld's rising/ascending sign-- or the face the world sees—I first thought "Virgo". After chewing on it a while, I realized I was close, but incorrect . Hades may radiate “earth sign”, but he comes across as a rising Capricorn without a doubt.

Capricornians tend to be loners and introverts, by nature. They have strong wills and a sense of character, and are hyper-critical of themselves.

The symbol for Capricorn is actually a sea-goat, with the head of a goat and the tail of a fish—and the glyph reflects that idea. There’s an idea that those in this zodiac sign are intimidating or scary, since they are a “monster” of sorts. The “Goat of Fear” creates panic or discomfort, and as their own biggest critics, they always fear the monsters inside of themselves.

Rising Capricornians are usually serious, and radiate a sense of competence. Their lives tend to be success stories, where they overcome a lot to “rise above”. Nobody is harder on them than themselves, and nothing ever seems to be perfect enough to them. It’s the ultimate uphill battle for perfectionism, and even after earning something… they may not feel like they actually deserve it. Hyper-critical and humble, they are the masters of self-control and responsibility.

Hades is a blend of all of these things—and considering the elemental signs I attributed to Persephone, it would explain why the two would balance each other out so wonderfully.
